We have had another big day in Bangkok...but I will do the final days post once back in Australia! Yes we are just about to board our flight home to Melbourne. All very tired and ready for a snooze. Catch up when we touch down!!

Bangkok - Day 3....Last Day

Image
Well, sadly our last day in Bangkok and in Thailand has arrived. The time has gone so quickly. It is hard to believe that we have done so much, seen so much and learnt so much. It is hard to pick one thing that is the stand out event! We started the morning, after breakfast, saying goodbye to Geoff, Chalor and Poi. They were heading back to Lat Chit. We have been so lucky to have spent so much time with them, to be cared for, toured around and to have learnt about their country and culture. Thank you so much Geoff, Chalor and Poi, we will miss you all. While I organised our luggage Brayden went for a swim and Jason went down with him. It was the first day in Bangkok that it hadn't been pouring rain...so Brayden could swim! Here are some photos around the hotel...it was gorgeous!! We checked out at noon and headed for some more shopping at MBK. We loved this shopping centre (and Brayden loved the Sky train to get there). We had lunch at 'The Fifth Floor' at the MBK Centre. A

Bangkok Day 2

Image
We started the morning with a leisurely breakfast at the hotel. Brayden and I thought that the pancake making machine was rather cool and would love to have one at home. We continued with our leisurely start to the day. I had a manicure and pedicure and Jason and Brayden had pedicures... It has been pouring rain...and of course we had to get back to meet Geoff, Chalor and Poi in the rain. Actually the rain was so torrential that the fire brigade were out trying to disperse the water heading into the carpark of Terminal 21. Terminal 21 is one of the newest shopping complexes in Bangkok. Our hotel is right next to it/above it. Here is a photo I took last night...our hotel is the tallest building, the brightest is Terminal 21. Because of the rain we decided to grab a coffee and wander around the shops for a little while, hoping the rain would ease. Each level of Terminal 21 represents a different country and the merchandise and shops try to reflect that. The styling features do too! Here

Bangkok

We left Lat Chit about 9am this morning. As we drove out of the driveway the rain started. By the time we were in Phak Hai...not even 5 mins...the heavens had opened. It rained constantly the whole way to Bangkok...about two hours drive!  Then we sat in traffic. Bangkok is such a busy city...when we arrived last week we were sort of on the outskirts but today we needed to be in Sukhumvit Road...the main section of Bangkok. We went to our hotel, but our room wasn't ready. So we headed off in the pouring rain to grab some lunch and do some shopping. We ended up catching the Skytrain to National Stadium where an extremely large shopping complex called MBK is situated.  Check out Brayden's wet back from the rain in this photo!!! We came home with plenty of bags of shopping, tired feet but had lots of fun bartering. There are times you almost feel criminal with the price you get some things for.  This photo was taken at the coffee stop. We headed back to the hotel. Basically in a da

Our Last Day in Lat Chit

Image
Today was our last day in the village, Lat Chit. Tomorrow morning we head back to Bangkok for the final leg of our holiday. We had a late start this morning, a huge sleep in until 8am...not bad in the heat and with the humidity! My little washer boy did the final load of washing so we had the majority of our clothes clean ready for Bangkok! We hung out with Arnut and Note. Arnut is Geoff and Chalor's Grandson. He is 3 years old. He came to pick us up in Bangkok on the first day and screamed because he didn't want to get in the car with us. Well, it has taken the week but he has connected with Brayden and can say Brayden's name, Jason has talked about Cars The Movie with him and has encouraged him to say 'Mater as in Tow-Mater' and I have tickled him and counted to 10...a zillion times!! Note is Geoff and Chalor's nephew. He often comes around when Chalor's brother works on the farm. We have only seen him a little bit but he is very cute. Brayden gave him a s

A Quiet Day

Image
We started the day at 7am when we left for the Monday market. We wandered around the market and Geoff and Chalor grabbed some product for the shop. We picked up some cheap clothing. Not much though. We then headed home for coffee and breakfast. We spent the day doing very little. Brayden has enjoyed doing the washing whilst we have been away. Poi showed him how to use their twin tub. I have told him that I am set now...he can do the washing all the time...he doesn't believe me that pressing the on button on our front loader is so much easier than the twin tub.  As we have done very little today here are some photos that we have taken here in Lat Chit. This is looking out from the front of the house... This is taken from the rice farms looking back to the house... This photo was taken as we were driving home from Ayutthaya yesterday and the sun was setting... Jason slept for a few hours this afternoon and has just said to me..."Maybe I should have had a sleep this afternoon!!&q

Another Big Day Out...

Image
We woke reasonably early this morning. Geoff and Chalor had warned us that there would be a procession through the village for the young boy who was entering the monk hood. They were right. At about 7am there was a band that led the procession and then the car that carried the boy and his family...then the fifty billion family and friends that followed after that. This isn't a great photo but it is the family car. After the excitement of the morning, we had a slow start. We needed to wait for Chalor's daughter Si so that she could look after the shop. Si is Chalor's 21 year old daughter who is Arnut's mum. She works as a shift manager at the Seven Eleven but also helps out in the shop. When all was sorted we headed out. First stop Wat Chaiwattanaram, another old ruin temple. This temple was built by King Prasatthong on the land belonging to his mother. According to the ancient records the temple layout was clearly planned to symbolise Buddhist cosmology. Another beautif
