Wat Muang and Ayutthaya

We headed out about 10am today to a place called Ang Thong. It is probably roughly 40 minutes from where we are staying in Lat Chit.

Again, no idea where we were headed except that we were going to a temple.

As we drew closer to our destination we could see an amazingly large Buddha statue reaching high into the sky. This was the temple that we were heading for.

It is called Wat Muang. The original Wat Muang was constructed in around 1687 but was then destroyed by the Burmese army. The actual temple was reconstructed in 1983. In 1991, the abbot of the temple, Pra Kru Viboon Ajarnrakun along with the people of Thailand wanted to build the world's largest Buddha Statue. It took 16 years to complete.
The gardens surrounding the Buddha Statue were magnificent. There were also other statues depicting many other stories of Thai history. Some very brutal looking statues and situations depicted. This was one of the less brutal.
This was inside one of the smaller temples surrounding the Buddha Statue.
After seeing the temples we left and drove for another roughly half hour until we came to Ayutthaya City Park. A rather large shopping complex in Ayutthaya.
We had lunch at MK Restaurant. It was sort of like a hot pot. Where you add vegetables to a broth. Then you have different raw meat that you add to little baskets to cook in the broth.
Brayden loved it...and he loved dessert of course...a Mickey Mouse ice cream.

We did some shopping for the rest of the afternoon and then headed home.
The funniest thing I have seen though was in the parking lot today. There is a lane that you can choose to park in but you must leave your car in neutral...
If there are cars blocking yours when you want to get out all you do is push them out of the way!!! Either forwards or backwards...we had to when we returned to the car...
Crazy! Crazy! Crazy!!!
A great day....oh I forgot to mention the beautiful food Chalor continuously provides us! Yummo!

Comments

  1. The last few days of your trip look to have been very interesting. What an education for young Brayden. What are the religions in the Thailand or is their only the one? How is the humidity? Keep safe.

  2. The main religion followed in Thailand is Buddhism however there are several other religions such as Confucianism, Taoism, Hinduism and Christianity.
The humidity is extremely high...assuming there could be rain on the way given there is a typhoon out to the East.
