What a Day!

We have had an amazing day today!!
We headed off early morning (not too early) and went in the direction of Ayutthaya.
We stopped at a place called Wat Ta Ga Long. A beautiful place...lovely gardens, lots of shrines and statues and temples. It is situated on the Chao Phraya River...this is the river that runs between the mountains of Chang Mai right through to the capital city of Thailand, Bangkok.

The river, due to the current flooding in Thailand, has risen very high. The picture below was taken at Wat Ta Ga Long. Normally you can walk down about 20 steps here to get to the lower level.
Instead we had to walk around but what magic we found. Floating food vendors. It was so awesome! We had some really yummy pork satay sticks...a great breakfast!

After feeding the fish and watching the tug boats we headed back through the park. What else do you do other than check out the toilets???
Well, the sign caught our attention straight away...we thought all you Aussies would get a giggle!!!

The toilets were luxury...each with a very large cubicle, carpet and a fan of their own! Very classy!

Here is the required family shot...

We then headed into Ayutthaya. Ayutthaya is the old capital city of Thailand. Many, many years ago the Burmese Army attacked and destroyed a lot of the city.

We saw a temple that houses Phra Mongkhn Bophit...one of the largest bronze Buddha statues in Thailand.
It is a massive 9.55m at the widest point across the lap and 12.45m high, without the base!
In the same place as this temple is Ayutthaya Historical Park. This is where you will find Wat Si San Petch. These are the ruins of the original royal temple of the kingdom of Ayutthaya and was constructed in the 1500s. It was destroyed during conflict with the Burmese Army.
Even though it was extremely hot we walked around the ruins...the structures were so amazing!
Here is only one of the fifty thousand photos I took!

After this we had a lovely lunch at a restaurant the looked back across a little man made lake towards the ruins.

We then headed to the Elephant Korral. I am sorry Di...:(
We had our photo with these gorgeous creatures and even got a hug!!

Brayden and I then took a ride on what I thought was the biggest elephant there. Put it this way it was a long way to the ground!!

We have had a magnificent day...still trying to beat the heat though.

Tonight, Chalor headed off to a local village party. A young boy was heading into the monk hood. Apparently all boys have to do this and after a month they can then decide if they stay in the temple or come back out into the world. The traffic to the village has definitely increased tonight!!! Lots of very happy Thai people!!
